New California State Construction and Demolition Waste Diversion Requirements in effect on January 1, 2017

The City of Emeryville will follow and enforce the new State Building Code.
New requirement will be 65% diversion from landfills of materials removed from all projects with the exception of residential projects that don't increase the size of the building.

Why construction and demolition waste diversion is Important


Up to 21% of waste in landfills comes from construction and demolition activity. The City of Emeryville’s ordinance addresses this by requiring that contractors of all demolition projects and construction projects with a valuation of over $50,000 or over 1,000 square feet recycle or reuse at least 50% of all debris generated by a project.
