To accomplish this mission, the Department oversees the implementation of three programs necessary to the growth and development of the City: economic development, housing, and public art. The successful integration of each program builds a dynamic, vital city serving all of its residents.
The Department is also responsible for overseeing the dissolution of Redevolpment by continuing to implement the remaining obligations of the Redeveloment agency
The Department implements the City’s Economic Development Strategy and Implementation Plan , approved in March 2012. The Strategy provides an overview of economic development activities, evaluates the City’s strengths and weaknesses, and sets forth principal strategies guiding the economic development program. The Implementation Plan provides a workplan that is approved every two years with the City’s budget.
The goal of the City’s affordable housing program is to Increase housing choice to homebuyers and renters at all income levels by facilitating the development of market rate and affordable housing units, providing program funding and management, and coordinating homeless and fair housing services.
The City is soliciting proposals from developers to redevelop the following property: 3706 San Pablo Avenue RFQ/P
The goal of the City’s Public Art Program is to develop innovative public art through strategic collaboration with artists, city departments, and local and regional arts organizations and businesses. The City has an extensive public art collection and actively acquires public art.
