EAST BAY COMMUNITY ENERGY (EBCE) UPDATES

EBCE has started proving service to municipal and commercial accounts since June 2018. Residential customers will be invited to sign up as early adopters during this period to begin receiving cleaner energy ahead of their scheduled launch in the Fall of 2018.

EMERYVILLE JOINS EBCE ALONG WITH 11 OTHER EAST BAY CITIES

On Tuesday, November 15th 2017, Emeryville City Council had their second reading of the Community Choice Aggregate (CCA) and approved joining East Bay Community Energy (EBCE).

The goals of EBCE are to use more renewable energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create local jobs, and offer competitive electricity rates. EBCE will purchase electricity for energy customers located in the cities that join EBCE and in unincorporated Alameda County. Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) will continue to provide customer billing, transmission, and distribution services. EBCE plans to begin serving customers in Fall 2017. The City joins 11 other Alameda County cities including Albany, Berkeley, Oakland, Piedmont, San Leandro, Dublin, Livermore, Hayward, Union City, Fremont, and Alameda County (unincorporated area) in providing a strong start for the EBCE Authority program beginning in 2017. This list of participating municipalities includes approximately 90% of the total electrical load of the County, beyond the minimum 7% required for a financially stable program.

On October 4th, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors approved the formation of a community choice energy program called East Bay Community Energy. You may find the video and details of this meeting here.

A thirty-nine membered Steering Committee was established by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors comprising elected officials, six staff members from Alameda County jurisdictions, residents, and representatives from organized labor, environmental groups, and community organizations. The Steering Committee helped guide the feasibility analysis and formation of the joint powers authority and had its last meeting on December 7th. East Bay Community Energy will be governed by the EBCE Authority, which will be made up of elected officials from Alameda County and each participating city within the County. The process for establishing a nine-member Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will begin in late January/early February of 2017.
