Dog License

Every person owning, possessing, controlling, harboring or keeping any dog over four (4) months of age shall procure an annual license tag for each such dog, as long as, the ownership of the dog continues. Such licenses shall be procured within ten (10) days after acquiring or bringing into the City any such dog. A dog license may only be issued for the duration of the rabies vaccination. Proof of a current rabies certificate from a licensed veterinarian must be delivered at time of licensing. 
Exemptions:
  • Dogs brought into the city for a period not to exceed six weeks are exempt from requiring an Emeryville dog license.
  • Seeing-Eye dogs owned and used by blind persons are exempt from license fees. For more information, see the ordinance language.

Process Overview

  1. Submit the Dog License Application Form, the Dog License Fee (exact cash only), and all accompanying documentation to:
          Emeryville Police Department
          2449 Powell St, Emeryville
          Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
  2. Dog Licenses must be renewed on an anniversary basis, with proof of an up-to-date vaccination.

All fees must be submitted in exact cash. Please note that fees are effective as of 7/1/2022 and are subject to change; you are responsible for double checking the amount on Emeryville’s Master Fee Schedule.
  • For One Year - Not Spayed/Neutered: $21
  • For Three Years - Not Spayed/Neutered: $33
  • For One Year - Spayed/Neutered: $10
  • For Three Years - Spayed/Neutered: $15
  • For One Year, Seniors (55+) - Not Spayed/Neutered: $5
  • For Three Years, Seniors (55+) - Not Spayed/Neutered: $10
  • For One Year, Seniors (55+) - $3
  • For Three Years, Seniors (55+) - $5
